About David Jahn
David Jahn was the Associate Judge of the Denton County Probate Court for ten years before being appointed as the Presiding Judge of Denton County Criminal Court at Law #1. He resigned that position in August of 2021 to run for Probate Judge after Bonnie Robison announced she would retire at the end of her current term.
David began his career in 1990 as a pilot in the U.S. Army, serving nine years, including deployments to Somalia for Operation Continue Hope and Kuwait for Operation Desert Thunder. He logged 1,650 flight hours and finished his service as a Chief Warrant Officer 2.
Later, he worked as an attorney in private practice for a brief period before becoming an Assistant District Attorney in 2004. David prosecuted 84 jury trials and 21 bench trials in cases in Denton, Jack, and Wise Counties. This included 3 prosecutions and convictions of murderers.

He was appointed by the Supreme Court of Texas and Court of Criminal Appeals in 2020 as a Commissioner to the Judicial Commission on Mental Health. He was also responsible for the application of receipt of the JCMH Community Diversion Coordinator Pilot Program for Denton County, and he organized the JCMH-sponsored Juvenile Sequential Intercept Mapping Program and Action Planning Seminar hosted by Lewisville ISD in July of 2021.
David is a graduate of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and he earned his law degree from Texas A&M University School of Law (formerly Texas Wesleyan) in Fort Worth. He has been married to his flight school classmate, Kathy, for 26 years, and together they are raising three children in Denton County.
